bad days.
Today was one of those days where everything takes up more time than it's supposed to, and nothing goes the way it should. The day wasn't that bad... it was just that I got home so late, and didn't make much progess with clients for the studio... ugh.
I met a dad and his 12-year-old boy today. After talking on the phone with the dad yesterday, I thought that this would be a sure bet student. Well, let's just say that this boy really scared the living lights out of me, and I really didn't try to sell our studio because I didn't want him to be in my studio. He wasn't the "boo" kind of scary... he was more of the "is he going to take out a gun and shoot someone" kind of scary. I couldn't tell if he was mentally handicapped or if he was just angry, but man, I was creeped out by him. He told me that he doesn't know how to play piano (he played for 5 years in China), and that he doesn't even want to take lessons, but his dad says he has to, so he has to do everything his dad says. I asked him to play something for me so I could gage what level he was at, but he said "NO!". Hmmm... so these are the students that teachers find most rewarding eh? Yeah, well, call me crazy but I'm not exactly crazy about this kid. Maybe I'm just not compassionate enough or something, but there is no way I will accept this boy as a student... NO WAY!
Oh yeah, I'm starting to plan for our summer program at the studio... if you're interested in volunteering, P/T or F/T work this summer, let me know. Our camp will be based on the fine arts (music, drama, art). Oh, and if you know any kids too, let them know to hold off from signing up with any other day camps, cuz ours is the place to be! --- YO!

Hmmm, I think I'll recommend VBS to kids instead. Don't want them coming out too aftsy-fartsy. :P Or maybe get shot by some other student of yours... :P
You know, if you accept him and become a mentor to him, he might turn out good. You know, no suicidal instincts later in life because YOU saved him from it. No homocidal instincts because YOU saved him from it. :P

Maybe the boy was just frontin' a tough guy image, but in reality he does have a soft spot to learn how to play the piano.
